Dr. Tom Roy. . .

Dr. Tom Roy is presently a private consultant working with schools and districts on methods to improve student learning, assessment, and school leadership. He is also a professor of education at Marian College in Wisconsin where he teaches a variety of leadership courses, research, statistics, and undergraduate courses (just for fun). In this role Tom has taught Dr. Marzano’s work, and developed new courses in curriculum, assessment, and supervision.

During more than 30 years in education, Tom served as a science and mathematics teacher in elementary, middle, and high schools, and in school administration. His experience includes nearly twenty years as a central office administrator serving twelve of those years as superintendent. He also spent a year and a half on a project developing science curriculum for the country of Papua New Guinea to be delivered over the radio in remote areas which helps bring focus to problem solving. Additionally, he traveled to Singapore, Manila, and Kuala Lumpur to consult with educational leaders in those countries about similar implementations and has taught a college course in Saipan.

Working to improve student learning, Tom has developed expertise in teaching for understanding and student assessment. His work in school leadership provides a basis for implementation of plans for change and innovative solutions to typical roadblocks. His strong suit is creative collaboration to assure that ideas turn into reality to support student learning.

Tom earned his Ph.D. in Curriculum and Instruction from Boston College, his M.S. in Education from Elmira College, and his B.S. from the State University of New York at Plattsburgh. He provides a balance of theory and practice to help educators understand the research and local data.  With these tools educators are guided to local understandings and plans that produce positive changes in student performance.
